Julie Phend is a writer of stories—both factual and fictional. A former middle school teacher, Julie is passionate about the power of story to hook the emotions of readers and transport them to other times and places, promoting understanding and connection. She writes on a variety of topics, but her work always involves a good story.
Julie's novel, Sculptor and Spy, is based on true events taking place during the early days of the American Revolution, rated #1 new release on Amazon. She is also the author of D-Day and Beyond: A True Story of Escape and POW Survival, a memoir written with D-Day survivor Stanley Edwards.
Julie is an active member of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), Riverside Writers of Fredericksburg, and Lake Authors of the Wilderness. She belongs to two writers critique groups, and blogs at the Grog Blog on topics of interest to the children’s writing community.
Julie lives in the historical heartland of central Virginia with her husband Jack. In her spare time, Julie loves walking, water sports, travel, cooking, and spending time with her wonderful family.
