Julie Phend is a writer of stories—both factual and fictional. A former middle school teacher of writing and literature, Julie is passionate about the power of story to hook the emotions of readers and transport them to other times and places, promoting understanding and connection. She writes on a variety of topics, but her work always involves a good story.
Julie is an active member of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), Riverside Writers of Fredericksburg, and Lake Authors of the Wilderness. She belongs to two writers critique groups, and blogs at the Grog Blog on topics of interest to the children’s writing community. She loves working with writers of all ages.
Julie lives in Central Virginia with her husband Jack and their active rescue dog, Duke. In her spare time, Julie loves walking, water sports, travel, cooking, and spending time with her wonderful family.
